Buses
Bangkok buses are an extensive, affordable public transport system operated primarily by the BMTA and private firms, with fares ranging from 8–32 baht. Options include non-air-conditioned (red, pink) and air-conditioned (blue, orange, yellow) vehicles. Most operate 5:00 AM–11:00 PM, with some all-night routes. Key hubs include major BTS/MRT stations, and tickets are bought from conductors.
Types of Buses in Bangkok
- Non-Air Conditioned (Red/Cream-Red, Pink): The cheapest, costing around 8-10 Baht, often older with fans.
- Air-Conditioned (Blue, Orange, Yellow, White): More comfortable, costing between 11-32 Baht depending on distance.
- Electric Buses (Thai Smile Bus – TSB): Newer, blue-colored, eco-friendly buses often featuring a 40-baht daily max fare using a HOP card.
- Expressway Buses: These use the expressway for faster travel and cost slightly more (add 2 Baht).

Important Tips for Riding on Bangkok’s Buses

- Routes: Use apps like Google Maps or the ViaBus app to find bus numbers and routes.
- Signage: Bus numbers are generally in numerical order, but the same number can have different routes depending on color.
- Stops: Many stops are designated, but in busy traffic, they may stop anywhere. Ring the bell before your stop.
- Operation Hours: Most run from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with all-night services available on certain, usually red, routes.
