On or Around the Chao Phraya River
Theres lots to do on or around the Chaophraya River. Bangkok offers a unique transportation experience with river taxis, including the Chao Phraya Express Boats, which are a convenient and affordable way to explore the city’s on the Chaophraya River. The main pier is at Saphan Taksin where the river meets the BTS system at Samphan Taksin BTS
There are several types of Chao Phraya Express Boats, each with a different color flag and route.
- No Flag: Boats without a flag stop at every pier.
- Blue Flag (Tourist Boat): Stops upon request, ideal for tourists exploring the river. Operates from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You can purchase a one-day pass for unlimited trips. Staff will call out the pier names and stop the boat upon request.
- Orange Flag: Stops at main piers
- Yellow Flag: Large express boat for commuters during rush hours.
- Green Flag: Express boat for commuters during specific hours
Top Tip: We throughly recommend the Canal Tour which starts on the River and winds around the canals on the Thonburi side of Bangkok. You get to see the real Bangkok. This is a real must do and possibly one of the top things to do in Bangkok
